Day 1 will focus on personal, professional and cultural aspects of birth work through the lens of larger themes such as power, trauma and transformation. We will cover a wide range of topics from systems theory, the nurses code of ethics/holistic nursing theory, rethinking Maslov’s hierarchy of needs, working with and without birth doulas, trauma informed care and the importance of self care and community care for birth workers.
Day 2 will focus on specific skills designed to support physiologic birth in a medical setting from exploring mindset and environment, breathing techniques, visualizations, and acupressure points. We will look at ways to track a labor and explore relevant coping and communication techniques.
